The Armor of God
June 8, 2025
In a world marked by spiritual confusion, moral compromise, and cultural chaos, Paul’s message in Ephesians 6:10–18 could not be more relevant. As believers, we are engaged in a spiritual war—one that requires vigilance, readiness, and most of all, spiritual armor.
Paul’s teaching is clear: this isn’t just a call to awareness; it’s a call to arms.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)
The Battle is Real
This battle is not fought with bullets or blades. It is a cosmic conflict waged between good and evil, light and darkness, heaven and hell. And every believer is caught in it—whether we realize it or not.
Paul warns us that we’re up against far more than we can handle in our own strength. He names our enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil. But he also points to the power available to us through Christ. That power enables us not just to survive—but to stand.
We Fight From Victory, Not For It
One of the most important truths Paul emphasizes is that we do not fight for victory—we fight from it. Jesus Christ has already secured our victory by defeating death, hell, and the grave. Satan is a defeated foe. He may scheme and deceive, but he holds no true authority over the believer unless we give it to him.
This spiritual armor is not optional. Paul doesn’t suggest we pick and choose. He commands us to put on the whole armor of God. Every piece matters. Every piece prepares us for a battle we can’t afford to ignore or enter unprepared.
Strength Beyond Ourselves
Paul urges us to be strong—in the Lord. Not in our talents, our personality, our willpower, or even our theological knowledge. But in God’s might. On our own, we’re no match for the forces of evil. But through Christ, we have access to divine strength.
“Apart from Me, you can do nothing.” —Jesus (John 15:5)
The armor of God is not self-made or store-bought. It is heaven-issued and Spirit-empowered. And when worn fully, it enables us to stand firm—even when the enemy rages.
The Danger of Comfort
One of Satan’s greatest weapons in the modern church may be comfort. We’ve grown used to convenience, instant gratification, and spiritual ease. But spiritual warfare is anything but comfortable. It demands devotion, discernment, and dependency on God.
We may have freedom of worship, padded pews, and air conditioning, but we must ask ourselves: Are we prepared if the comforts vanish? Would we still follow Jesus without the convenience?
In places like Africa, believers rely on God daily—for provision, for protection, and for power. Their worship is raw, their faith is full, and their lives reflect dependency on God in ways that put many of us to shame. What they lack in resources, they make up for in spiritual hunger.
A Call to Suit Up
The church cannot be passive in this fight. We cannot afford to be unaware. And we certainly cannot afford to be neutral. Paul’s words are a battle cry: “Put on the whole armor of God!”
Each piece of this armor is a divine gift, crafted to help us withstand the enemy’s attacks:
The belt of truth
The breastplate of righteousness
The shoes of the gospel of peace
The shield of faith
The helmet of salvation
The sword of the Spirit
We will explore each of these pieces in the weeks ahead, but today, we begin by recognizing the need to suit up.
Final Word
This is not a playground—it’s a battleground. But take heart: we do not stand alone. We stand strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Victory is ours—not because we earned it, but because Jesus secured it.
So, suit up. Stand firm. And fight the good fight of faith.
Because the battle is real. But so is the armor.
And praise God—the war has already been won.
