The Armor of God - Part Three

June 22, 2025

As we approach the closing section of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we are drawn into one of the most urgent and empowering themes in all of Scripture: the believer’s spiritual battle and the divine armor provided to fight it. In the previous parts of this sermon series, we covered our exhortation to stand strong and identified the enemy—Satan himself.

This week, we begin to unpack our equipment. The truth is, the battle isn’t coming—it’s already here. It’s raging now. Whether you feel it or not, whether you acknowledge it or not, you’ve been enlisted. And in this cosmic clash between good and evil, you can’t afford to walk into the day spiritually unarmed.

You’re In the Battle—Now Suit Up

Paul writes:

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)

We’re not called to fight for victory. We fight from victory. The war has already been won through Jesus Christ. Our job is to stand firm in that victory and withstand the enemy’s daily attacks.

The Importance of the Whole Armor

Paul stresses the word “whole.” Not partial. Not occasional. Every piece of the armor matters. Miss one, and Satan will target your vulnerability. This is not a game. There’s no neutrality. You either suit up or risk being spiritually wounded.

Too often, we walk out into life as if showing up is enough. But showing up is not the same as being prepared.

First Piece: The Belt of Truth

Paul begins his list of spiritual armor with something unexpected—the belt.

Why a belt? Because it holds everything else in place. The Roman soldier’s belt supported the breastplate and kept the tunic from flapping around in battle. Without the belt, everything falls apart.

Spiritually speaking, the belt of truth is foundational. It refers to the truth of God’s Word—unchanging, absolute, and essential.

“Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17)

We live in a culture obsessed with “my truth” and “your truth.” But God’s Word makes clear: there is one truth, and it is His. Truth isn’t based on feelings, trends, or personal experience. It’s based on the unchanging character of God.

Truth stabilizes you. It anchors your identity, your direction, and your defense. It’s how you recognize Satan’s lies, expose deception, and respond with clarity.

Truth Is Under Attack—But It Won’t Fail

Satan’s first move in the garden was to question truth: “Did God really say…?” That’s still his strategy today. He doesn’t need to make you deny God; he just needs you to doubt Him.

But we must be anchored. We must be grounded in the truth so that when spiritual attack comes, we go back to what we know is true.

When Satan accuses you—go back to the truth. When you’re filled with fear and doubt—go back to the truth. When culture mocks your convictions—go back to the truth.

Go Back to What You Know

In your darkest moments, recall the unchanging things:

  • God is Holy.

  • Jesus is Lord.

  • The Bible is true.

  • You are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

  • Christ intercedes for you.

  • The cross was enough.

  • The tomb is empty.

Go back to the moments when God showed up in power, when He answered prayers, when He brought peace, when He proved faithful.

Don’t trust your feelings—stand on truth. Don’t depend on motivation—lean on the Word. The belt of truth isn’t flashy, but it holds everything together.

Final Thoughts

You’ve been called into battle. Not to panic, but to stand. Not in fear, but in faith. And not in your own strength, but in the armor God has given you.

Today’s question is simple: Are you wearing the belt of truth?

If not, now’s the time to fasten it on. Because the enemy is stalking, and only truth can hold you steady.

Next time, we’ll move into the breastplate of righteousness—but don’t wait to start. Suit up. The battle has already begun.

Stand firm. Stand ready. And always—stand in the truth.
